Through the decades of ministering and outside speaking, I’ve been in a variety of situations. I’ve been in places where I’ve seen God work and others where “Ichabod” was written over the door and I’ve tried to get out of town as quickly as possible. It’s one thing to say you want God to work; it’s another thing to desperately want it.

The work of God is not a program or an event. It is a sovereign work. At the same time, God won’t work where He’s not wanted or welcomed. If we’ve got it figured out in our flesh, we can forget power from on high. Continue reading →

If you keep up with current events, you know that the American populace is increasingly frustrated. No matter your political persuasion, it is painfully obvious that our national leaders don’t know what to do. This fact was stated in the Old Testament at a time of national crisis. The sad reality of our 21st-century leaders is that they are unwilling to say, “But our eyes on are You.”

The pride of power has corrupted the minds of our leaders. The arrogance of self-righteous, self-sufficiency has given us leaders who are more concerned about their power than the people. The average American is frustrated at best. Most are angry. That anger is seething and boiling, some is coming to the surface, and much is revealed in how we talk back to our television newscast. We live in a world that expects perfection. We expect it of our athletes, preachers, coaches, leaders, and ourselves. The only problem is that perfection is impossible. It’s unattainable and unrealistic.

Think about coaches. How many are second-guessed on their play calling by “fans” who sit in the stands and couldn’t coach a winning team on a video game. Coaches are called on to make split-second decisions depending on personnel, weather and field conditions, injuries, score, time on the clock, and their opponent. It’s not an easy task.
